Coal Mines or Bank which is better overall?

Worked at bank for 4 yrs now. But it doesn't pay much at all, Boss told me to give them time to get me into a better position (that was over 2 yrs ago). Still he tells me they are wanting to "mentor" me under our COO who is my direct supervisor. I like this job, great hours and easy company to work for. But we have only my income with a family of four. My wife has looked for work but she can't find anything that would really help out (mostly call-in work). The mines where I live would pay 3x as much. My Father has worked in them for almost 30yrs. Any advice or thoughts are appreciated.
